sad news for fans of gadgets, whether young or old: Ugobe, the company that created the Pleo dinosaur, has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. News has confirmed more than a month, seems to have finally laid to rest any speculation about the future scaley robots from the Jurassic period.
was introduced in 2006, Pleo is touted as the must have Christmas gift this year, and sales exceeded expectations; 100.00 model sold worldwide, with about Ugobe Pleo production of 20 million U.S. dollars. But even after this phenomenal wave of selling the company is still on the left about 3 million U.S. dollars of debt! One supplier even filed a complaint for nonpayment.
Ugobe website is currently down, and the company has announced that all employees are laid off.
report seems to have stirred emotions and from many owners and fans of quirky robot dinosaur!
Is this an extinction that Pleo can be avoided? Maybe. number of interested parties is currently eyeing the robot candy on the table - Ugobe hold the number of patents that might be included in a future toys (including the all new Pleo, risen from the ashes !)
It seems like a harsh economy and consumers tightening belts and can be meteor that ended Pleo Dinosaur Robot, but the children's work (and his), I hope that another company is up to the challenge. After all, it will be a real shame to see the back of the robot dinosaurs.
If this is his last death this could mark the high for the retailers. This toy was much loved and highly sought after gift. In light of the announcement of Chapter 7, a toy May well become collectors item. He could now time to try and grab a toy Pleo before stocks run out?
